It is with great pleasure that I welcome you, and your child, to Leonard R. Flynn Elementary School.
I'm delighted to be back at Flynn where I have worked with many of you as the Instructional Reform Facilitator, and now as your principal. I congratulate and look forward to continuing to work with Karling Aguilera-Fort, the new Mission Zone Assistant Superintendent.
Last school year we initiated a more consistent and meaningful collaboration with families, and with the community at large, on behalf of our students. This year we will deepen that collaboration with all of you. At school we will also continue with our focus on high quality instruction through the lenses of Equity & Social Justice. Definitely this goal can only be accomplished with your consistent support.
We will continue much of last year's planning with an Early Release Day. We will dismiss students on Thursdays at 1:40 PM. This time will be devoted to grade level work that includes but is not exclusive to planning, looking at student work, data analysis, reflecting and reshaping or redesigning lessons based on results. Three of the main areas of work are full implementation of Balanced Literacy, Inquiry through Sciences /Social Studies and implementation of the Common Core Curriculum for Math & Language Arts. We are committed to continue the work around equitable and restorative practices in the social emotional area, and to that end, teachers will be trained in Tribes to foster community and resolve conflict.
Our school day begins at 8:35 when the first bell rings and students are expected to be in the circle (in the West Yard) at that time.
* Class listings will be posted outside the main office. *
Flynn is an uniform school. It is required that all students wear uniforms from the first day of school. If students are not wearing the school uniform we will provide them with used clothes.
I am looking forward to getting to know all of you and to working with our entire community on behalf of all our students.
